Well it’s Sunday and we’ve had over half a meter of snow since yesterday, I’m really glad I’m not at work this week.
Later this evening Chienbäse takes place in Liestal, the residents run through the streets dragging burning carts of hay I think it is supposed to ward off evil spirits and chase away winter (but I’m no expert on it). We still haven’t been to see it just watched it on Telebasel.
I was hoping to go this year but there is no way we’re going now with all that snow outside. There are some photographs of Chienbäse on Flickr

Later at 4am in Basel it’s Morgestraich which marks the beginning of Basel fasnacht.
