A couple of summers ago my friend Sue had a barbeque where I tasted the most amazing burgers, they were Honey Mustard Pork Burgers. I asked for the recipe and pointed me to the book where she go it. The Great Big Burger Book by Jane Murphy and Liz Yeh Singh I would say is an essential for anyone who loves barbeques, up until now I haven’t really made much from this book but check back here later today and you’ll be in for a something a little different.

Hotel Abbey – Brussels
Just back from Brussels last night, what an exhausting couple of days! I’m still not at 100%, this virus seems to have really worn down my system, it’s taking me ages to recover.
I said I’m just back, there was a seafood convention being held at the same time as our conference so the organizers had no choice but to book us into two different hotels for the two nights.
The first hotel I stayed at was the Hotel Abbey. I always like to check out the hotels I will be staying at before I arrive so I have an idea of what to expect but I couldn’t find much information aside that on their website.
Here are what I thought: Continue reading
Belgium on Business
I’m away on business in Belgium at the moment but I have my camera and have enjoyed some nice foodie treats, more on Friday when I get home…
Blog Swap Revisited 2 – Ricotta Fritta Con Piccola Insalata Di Pomodori
Regular readers will know that yesterday Meeta and I over at What’s for Lunch Honey? held our first Blog Swap.
Just in case you missed my recipe here it is:

Mince and Tatties – Traditionally Scottish
Last week the weather was gorgeous with soaring temperatures, yesterday and today it has been miserable, grey, windy, cold and it’s rained all day.
This kind of weather makes me crave comfort food, the kind of food my mum and grandmother used to make when I was young, something traditionally Scottish. What could be more Scottish than Mince and Tatties??
Mince and Tatties is a dish of minced beef and potatoes (tatties), it can is also be served with neeps (a neep is a yellow turnip or rutabaga known in England as a swede) but this is not essential. I have never found this kind of turnip here in Switzerland, it’s a real pity since it is one of my favourite vegetables.
The recipe isn’t complicated or very time consuming to make, just warming and tasty.

Blog Swap revisited
Blog Swap – Meeta Presents!
If you are wondering where Pam is, she’s over at my place cooking there, so I thought I’d keep her stove warm here.
Pam and I decided to surprise our readers with a Blog Swop. We discovered, in our virtual friendship, that we have a few things in common and really took a liking to each other. One thing we both love is Jamie Oliver and his current Jamie’s Italy. The recipes are all fantastic! That is why it was rather difficult for me to decide what could I cook for Pam!
At first I thought of making something sweet but then decided to go with this recipe:
Spaghetti con Gamberetti e Rucola – Spaghetti with jumbo prawns and rucola.
I had a few great ideas how I could photograph the prawns
!
Turkey Bagel
I had some of that really nice garlic marinaded turkey breast left over from last night and so I thought it would make another scrummy bagel filling. As you can see from the photograph below I managed to cut this one properly, Stewart commented on the fact that my BLT bagel looked as if I had cut it with a blunt knife!

Summer Salad
The weather had been decidedly summery all week (not that I’ve seen much of it stuck in bed) so I thought I would make a nice big salad for dinner tonight with all my favourite ingredients. My flu is getting a little better every day so I hope the good weather will continue so I can enjoy a couple of days of sunshine before I’m off to Belgium on Wednesday.

Great breakfast idea
I was reading Johanna’s blog over at The Passionate Cook and loved her brilliant breakfast idea of BLT bagels, coincidently were were shopping at Marktkauf a couple of weeks ago and we finally found some bagels.
This morning I decided to treat myself to that very same breakfast.
