My Herb Garden

Yesterday when I popped into town to pick up my lunch I stopped my Migros and finally managed to get a corriander plant, I don’t have any compost so I haven’t repotted it yet.  Only time will tell if this year I will be able to grow this most elusive of herbs sucessfully!

Basil

Anyway here are the latest pics of my herbs, my basil plant didn’t look very happy after it was transplanted and I thought I would loose it but it seems to be getting better.

My dwarf tomato plant already has some rather healthy looking tomatoes!!  The other plant looks like a much younger plant and although it doesn’t have any fruit yet it is coming on quite well never the less.

I’m looking forward to my first harvest this year, it’s so exciting!!!

Spicy Red Curry Fishcakes

As I said earlier I’ve been thinking about this recipe all week, a real fusion dish of East meets West. I have been musing about which curry paste would suit cod and what other ingredients to add.

At lunchtime today I went into the city to get lunch and I stopped by the little Asian store at Claraplatz since they sell a whole host of freshly made curry pastes. I bought three different pastes, normal red curry paste, country style curry paste and chu-chi curry paste. I have no idea what to do with the country style and chu-chi curry pastes but I thought the red curry would be perfect for my reworked Thai influenced fishcakes.

This is a work in progress so it may take a few attempts before I get it exactly right.

I noticed this morning that there seemed to be a problem with my Feedburner link. I haven’t got a clue how the link got broken but I have now repaired it and everything should be working fine again!

Reworking a Past Hit

I have been thinking about this recipe all week and have been really looking forward to trying out my little experimental reworking of a previous recipe posted here which was a massive hit.

The only clue I will give is that the new version will involve Eastern flavours….

Check back later this afternoon to see which recipe is being given a completely new lease of life….

What Did I Cook In This Hot Weather??

After being truly inspired by all of the great ideas you gave me for dinner I finally decided upon what to have for dinner tonight.

I love salad, turkey and tortillas so so these seemed the perfect basics for a light dinner on this hot and sticky summer evening.

Inspiration….What To Cook When The Weather Is So Hot??

I’ve been feeling a little lack lustre the past few days. The  temperature in our apartment hasn’t dropped below 25°C  for over a week and so I haven’t been sleeping terribly well, it’s starting to tell on me…  I’m usually ok with heat but it’s the terrible humidity here in Basel which has a tendancy to grind me down in the summer.

The motivation to be in the kitchen has left me.  I really need some inspiration, some fantactic summertime dishes which don’t take a lot of time to prepare, are low fat and packed with flavour…  Any ideas???

Monthly Mingle #2 - Big on Barbeque - Teriyaki Salmon

My contribution for Monthly Mingle #2 is Teriyaki Salmon. As you may know I’m not the world’s biggest fish fan but the last time we were back in Glasgow we had dinner at Ichiban and Stewart ordered Teriyaki Salmon as a starter and it was absolutely delicious!! With that in mind I searched through my cookbooks for a reliable Teriyaki recipe… who could be more reliable than Delia Smith??

Delia Smith is the matriarch of British cookery, in fact the phrase “doing a Delia” actually appears in the Oxford Engish dictionary as both a noun and a verb! If there was ever a Teriyaki recipe which would be sucessful then surely it would be hers??

Judge for yourself.. Here is Delia’s recipe for Teriyaki Grilled Marinated Salmon, taken from How to Cook Book 3.

Monthly Mingle #2 - Big on Barbeque

Well done to my friend Meeta over at What’s for Lunch Honey? for the brilliant round-up of Monthly Mingle #1 - ‘Football’s coming home’.

The temperatures are soaring and barbeque season is underway so what could a more appropriate theme for Monthly Mingle #2 than ‘Big on Barbeque’!

I have decided upon an Oriental treat for my contribution to Monthly Mingle #2, I may seem a little early with my entry but we’ve got two sets of visitors between now and the 10th July so I’m not sure how much time I’ll have to dedicate to cooking and writing on my blog..

Check back later to discover what I’ve been cooking…
