Five Things To Eat Before You Die

The BBC recently conducted a viewers poll in which they asked participants to name ’50 things to eat before you die’ in the spirit of this event Melissa of The Travellers Lunchbox decided to turn this into a great blogging event, it’s been gathering speed since last week.

In order to limit things Melissa has asked that readers limit themselves to 5 things/dishes.

It’s really difficult for me to choose only 5 so I have deliberated long and hard but finally I have my final set..

So My Weekend Didn’t Exactly Go As Planned

UPDATE: Meant to say since my battery charger for my camera was in said missing suitcase the number of photographs I can take will be limited for the moment until I get a replacement.

I’ll keep it brief since I’m still quite upset / angry / bemused / baffled / annoyed / irked / inconvenienced. I could go on but I think you get the idea.. let’s just say the weekend didn’t go as planned thanks to Easyjet & London Stansted airport.

It would seem that on Thursday whilst on route to Glasgow my luggage either

  • located a portal into another dimension and slipped/fell/was pushed/jumped/was thrown into said portal

OR

  • has run away to join the circus

I have come up with these options since no one is able to tell me if my case actually left London or if it did which flight it left on or give me any information at all..

I now have the unenviable task of trying to replace all the items which were in my case and dealing with my insurance claim.

Normal Service should be resumed shortly…

Tschüss! I’m Off To Glasgow!!

Things will be rather quiet here for a couple of days as I’m off to Scotland for a girly weekend with my best friend!!  I have been looking forward to this for ages and since I’ve had a really crappy week I’m so glad today’s the day!!

Despite the reputation for deep fried mars bars etc Scotland has the most amazing local produce and Glasgow has a wide range of excellent restaurants (and Natalie is an excellent cook!!!).  I’ll try and take lots of photos.

I’m especially looking forward to Gourmet Glasgow which is running 1-31st August and featuring some of Glasgow’s best chefs and restaurants, I’m hoping to get the chance to check some of it out!!

Fingers crossed that Stansted aiport is not chaos!

So for now I say Tschüss!!  See you in a couple of days!!

Food Blogging Event – Favourite Kitchen Gadgets (or tools)!!!

logoI was in the process of writing a post inspired by a conversation I had with my uncle this afternoon and I suddenly thought it would be a fun idea for a one off event.

So it’s official I’m hosting my first ever food blogging event and the theme for this event is….

Favourite Kitchen Gadgets a one off blogging event brought to you by yours truly!!

I’d love to hear about the kitchen gadget or kitchen tool you just couldn’t live without, your most used kitchen toy or your most unusual/treasured kitchen gadget or tool and the reason why. As ever lots of photographs are encouraged.

The posting deadline is 10th September.

I have created this button which should add a reminder of the date to your google calendar.

If you wish to take part then email me with your name, title of your site, a photograph of your favourite gadget and a link to your post. I’ll collect all of the photographs and create a Flickr group. As you can see at the beginning of this post I have created a logo for this event, feel free to download it and use it for your entry!

ps. Don’t forget to tag your post Favourite Kitchen Gadgets and add this technorati tag

I can’t wait to hear about all the different gizmos, tools and gadgets you are all playing with whilst creating culinary masterpieces!!

Simple Lasagna

UPDATE 22 AUGUST : As Meeta quite rightly pointed out Italy is the most wonderful destination for a holiday and the two dishes which have a special place in my heart from Italy are pizza and Lasagna.

With that in mind I have decided therefore that it is fitting to make this my submission for Meeta’s Monthly Mingle#4 since the theme is “Holiday Cuisine“.

Firstly I would like to thank Ivonne from Creampuffs In Venice for sharing her mum’s wicked lasagne recipe, unlike Ivonne I left the meat in but next time I think I would take it out (and maybe use homemade pasta, I used store bought fresh lasagne sheets as we were going out last night and I had no time to make it fresh).

My lasagna wasn’t very photogenic but it did taste wonderful!!

After reading through Ivonne’s recipe I realized that in order to make a delicious lasagna you didn’t need to faff around making a bechemel sauce (this is what has always put me off, plus Stewart really dislikes bechemel sauce so normally doesn’t eat lasagna).

Here is my try at a simple lasagna recipe. Enjoy!

Potato & Mushroom Masala

I told you all I was addicted to curry at the moment and I enjoyed my Aloo Masala a couple of weeks ago so much that I decided to have another bash.  This time the slight difference was that I added some mushrooms and an extra onion. It was absolutely divine!!!

See here for the original recipe.

Here is the end product, mmmmmm even looking at the photo makes my mouth water….

Creamy Turkey & Tofu Curry

At the beginning of August I decided to have a week dedicated to abstaining from meat and with this in mind I bought some tofu. I enjoy tofu but I have never cooked with it until now that is!

So anyway during my veggie week I bought some organic tofu and put it in the fridge and there it sat. Every time I opened the fridge there it sat, looming, haunting… TOFU .. COOK ME… EAT ME… I was scared..

Well I knew the day would finally come, the expiry date on the tofu is tomorrow and I was faced with the reality that I would either need to cook the tofu or chuck it in the bin…

OK..OK..I GIVE UP.. I will cook the tofu!!

I had a look to see what other ingredients in the fridge required liberation before ending up in the bin and so I came up with this recipe. Have a look and see what you think.

Turns out I shouldn’t have been scared the tofu was delicious and easy to cook.
