UPDATE 15th AUGUST : Xochitl has received my parcel safely, go to her site Xochitl Cooks to see what she thought.
Last night when I got in from work there was a slip from the post office saying there was a parcel waiting for me. That meant one thing to me, my EBBP parcel had arrived!! I was so excited!!
Things didn’t go very smoothly when Stewart tried to get the parcel this morning, the post office couldn’t find it and that we should come back on Monday. About an hour later the telephone rang, it was the post office saying that they had located my package and that we could pick it up. Phew….
My package was from Jeanne over at Cook Sister! and it had the most wonderful treats inside!!
The goodies comprised :
- Ma Ball’s peach chuntney which reminds Jeanne of her home (South Africa) and is a perfect condiment for any summer evening barbecue.
- Next was a packet of Biltong, a cured meat snack (I’ll need to wait a couple of days until my Vegetarian week is over before I try this).
- A can of Pimms and lemonade is the quintessential English summer drink – I look forward to trying this, I’ve never had Pimms before!
- Rosemary and black olive seasoning – perfect barbecue seasoning.
- Some really cute citrus tablecloth weights.
- Homemade lemon shortbread fingers – these are absolutely delish!! I adore shortbread!!
- Chocolate lollies for making the perfect cup of hot chocolate – ideal for a day like today which is suddenly cool and raining heavily.
- A packet of Ginger Nut biscuits – I have always loved these, they remind me of childhood.
Jeanne gave me a great recipe for the ginger nut biscuits:
GINGER MOUSSE – Crush the packet of ginger nut biscuits, put them in a shallow dish and pour over enough sherry so that the bottom of the dish is covered and leave to sit until the biscuits are soft enought to mash into a paste. Whip 250ml of whipping cream till stiff. Fold in the mashed ginger nut paste, and mix well. Serve as it is or spoon into a pie crust and serve!
