Green Chilli Risotto

This is another rather unorthodox recipe from Sue Style and her great book Eat and Two Veg.  I must apologize to the purests among you but I’m no food snob and I like to experiment so I thought I would give this a try.. and what do you know, we loved it!!

See what you think..

Spaghetti Bolognaise

This Nigel Slater recipe came from his show called a Taste of My Life.

I’ve been looking for a more authentic recipe to try and since my son adores pasta I thought this would be ideal for a nice relaxing family meal.

I was right, clean plates all round!  It was delicious, rich and filling, perfect!

Karen’s Speedy Courgette & Bacon Risotto

This recipe comes from the New Covent Garden Soup Company’s  – Soup & Beyond book.  I can really recommend the Covent Garden cookbooks as I have a couple and so far all the recipes I’ve tried have always been delicious.  They saved my bacon on Christmas Day when I had a soup disaster and found I had all the ingredients for the Lentil and Bacon soup in the cupboard!!

Anyway, back to the risotto.  We were shopping at a local farm last weekend, at this time of year the local produce is amazing and they had some really great looking green and yellow courgettes so we bought a load and then weren’t sure what to make with them.  Mid week Stewart was looking through the cookbooks trying to find inspiration and the Covent Garden book fell open at this page and he decided to test it out. It was simply divine!  Really tasty!  Matthew loved it too as he had a little bit for lunch the next day!

Blog Swap – Meeta Presents!

If you are wondering where Pam is, she’s over at my place cooking there, so I thought I’d keep her stove warm here.

Pam and I decided to surprise our readers with a Blog Swop. We discovered, in our virtual friendship, that we have a few things in common and really took a liking to each other. One thing we both love is Jamie Oliver and his current Jamie’s Italy. The recipes are all fantastic! That is why it was rather difficult for me to decide what could I cook for Pam!

At first I thought of making something sweet but then decided to go with this recipe:

Spaghetti con Gamberetti e Rucola – Spaghetti with jumbo prawns and rucola.

I had a few great ideas how I could photograph the prawns ;-) !

Risotto Ai Funghi e Salsiccia – Sausage and Mushroom Risotto

I had some of those yummy Sausages from Ticino left over from lunchtime, so I decided they would be a rather delicious ingredient in a risotto. It’s only recently that I mastered the art of risotto making and now look for more and more interesting combinations of ingredients for new and exciting risottos.

Linguine Alla Carbonara Di Salsiccia – Sausage Carbonara

I’ve been in bed with flu for the past few days, it crept up on me gradually whilst I was in Glasgow. It didn’t spoil my weekend and I still made it to the Take That concert on Sunday night but by Monday I was lying on the sofa at my aunt’s house feeling really ill and rather sorry for myself. Somehow I managed to catch 2 flights home on Tuesday, it really is a haze.

I’m still feeling pretty ropey but wanted something filling and comforting for lunch today so I turned once again to my trusty copy of Jamie’s Italy by Jamie Oliver. I posted the Spaghetti Tetrazzini recipe from this book a couple of weeks ago and it was a real hit, I’m sure this recipe will be one too.

Stay tuned for a surprise event taking place here next week!

I’d never tried this recipe before but it sounded pretty straight forward and ticked all the right boxes so I thought it was worth trying.

Jamie Oliver’s – Spaghetti Tetrazzini

I really admire Jamie Oliver, he’s a great chef and his contribution in revolutionising the diet of school children all over the UK cannot be understated.

Jamie’s latest cookbook ‘Jamie’s Italy‘ reflects his journey through Italy which he undertook to rekindle his passion for cookery. He certainly achieved his goal, reading through this book you experience the different regions of Italy and their very different use of ingredients.

Here is the recipe for Spaghetti Tetrazzini from Jamie’s Italy:

Meatballs in a Tomato Sauce

When Natalie & Gareth came to visit us for the first time a couple of years ago they wanted to cook for us one night, they made the most amazing meatballs I’d ever tasted. I’m sure Natalie said it was based upon an Antonio Carluccio recipe she picked up in the supermarket.

My Parent’s In-Law’s arrive tonight for a short break and I thought meatballs would be the perfect warming dish since the weather is so wet and dismal at the moment.

Here is my version of the recipe Natalie & Gareth cooked for us.
