Food Destinations 2 – My Local Greenmarket!!

When Maki at I Was Just Really Very Hungry decided to make her Food Destinations a regular event I was really happy as the first round was such a success!! ‘My Local Green market’ – the theme for round 2 made me even happier since it meant that I could share with you my dear readers our local market in Basel.

Basel market is held daily Monday-Saturday at Marktplatz (Market Place) and it is busting full of fresh local ingredients and specialties. Simply put, it’s wonderful.

Without further ado here are my photos of our incredible market here in Basel.. Many thanks to Maki for inspiring me to share it with all of you.

Apologies

Apologies to all my readers for neglecting my site a little and not posting recipes or yummy food this week but I have a lot going on jobwise at the moment. I can’t really talk about it just now but it will all become clear in a couple of weeks (I hope)..

I haven’t really been cooking much, I’ve been in lazy mode since returning from Glasgow but I have taken photos from a dish I cooked the other night and I plan on posting it later so check back to find out what it is..

On another note the food and wine Degustation (local fair) is being held this weekend in Hagenthal just over the border in France and we are planning on paying it a visit either tonight or Monday so stay tuned for a report. I went last year with Amanda and Sue and it was great!! Lots of yummy tasters of local treats and local wines!!

Five Things To Eat Before You Die

The BBC recently conducted a viewers poll in which they asked participants to name ’50 things to eat before you die’ in the spirit of this event Melissa of The Travellers Lunchbox decided to turn this into a great blogging event, it’s been gathering speed since last week.

In order to limit things Melissa has asked that readers limit themselves to 5 things/dishes.

It’s really difficult for me to choose only 5 so I have deliberated long and hard but finally I have my final set..

So My Weekend Didn’t Exactly Go As Planned

UPDATE: Meant to say since my battery charger for my camera was in said missing suitcase the number of photographs I can take will be limited for the moment until I get a replacement.

I’ll keep it brief since I’m still quite upset / angry / bemused / baffled / annoyed / irked / inconvenienced. I could go on but I think you get the idea.. let’s just say the weekend didn’t go as planned thanks to Easyjet & London Stansted airport.

It would seem that on Thursday whilst on route to Glasgow my luggage either

  • located a portal into another dimension and slipped/fell/was pushed/jumped/was thrown into said portal

OR

  • has run away to join the circus

I have come up with these options since no one is able to tell me if my case actually left London or if it did which flight it left on or give me any information at all..

I now have the unenviable task of trying to replace all the items which were in my case and dealing with my insurance claim.

Normal Service should be resumed shortly…

Tschüss! I’m Off To Glasgow!!

Things will be rather quiet here for a couple of days as I’m off to Scotland for a girly weekend with my best friend!!  I have been looking forward to this for ages and since I’ve had a really crappy week I’m so glad today’s the day!!

Despite the reputation for deep fried mars bars etc Scotland has the most amazing local produce and Glasgow has a wide range of excellent restaurants (and Natalie is an excellent cook!!!).  I’ll try and take lots of photos.

I’m especially looking forward to Gourmet Glasgow which is running 1-31st August and featuring some of Glasgow’s best chefs and restaurants, I’m hoping to get the chance to check some of it out!!

Fingers crossed that Stansted aiport is not chaos!

So for now I say Tschüss!!  See you in a couple of days!!

Food Blogging Event – Favourite Kitchen Gadgets (or tools)!!!

logoI was in the process of writing a post inspired by a conversation I had with my uncle this afternoon and I suddenly thought it would be a fun idea for a one off event.

So it’s official I’m hosting my first ever food blogging event and the theme for this event is….

Favourite Kitchen Gadgets a one off blogging event brought to you by yours truly!!

I’d love to hear about the kitchen gadget or kitchen tool you just couldn’t live without, your most used kitchen toy or your most unusual/treasured kitchen gadget or tool and the reason why. As ever lots of photographs are encouraged.

The posting deadline is 10th September.

I have created this button which should add a reminder of the date to your google calendar.

If you wish to take part then email me with your name, title of your site, a photograph of your favourite gadget and a link to your post. I’ll collect all of the photographs and create a Flickr group. As you can see at the beginning of this post I have created a logo for this event, feel free to download it and use it for your entry!

ps. Don’t forget to tag your post Favourite Kitchen Gadgets and add this technorati tag

I can’t wait to hear about all the different gizmos, tools and gadgets you are all playing with whilst creating culinary masterpieces!!

Barbecue Masala

Last week I was in Manor (one of our local department stores which has a really nice food section) and I saw a new style spice rack sporting all sorts of goodies, one of which was named barbecue masala and it claimed to be pretty spicy. The ingredients of this barbecue masala consisted of chillies, mustard seeds, fenugreek, cumin, black pepper, mango powder, asafoetida, sesame seeds and salt. I couldn’t resist giving it a try so I bought it and it has lain dormant in my kitchen cupboard ever since.

Check back tomorrow to see what I concocted using this barbecue masala.

Food Destinations – Back by Demand!

Food DestinationsIn case you missed the news, Maki over at I was Just Really Very Hungry has decided due to popular demand to bring back Food Destinations, this time it will be a recurring event!!

The idea behind Food Destinations is that we should ask ourselves the question : If my favorite foodie/food blogger came to my town, where would I take him/her?

The theme for Food Destinations#2 is My Local Greenmarket..

So all you dedicated bloggers out there strap on your cameras, head out to your local markets and get snapping. As Maki says : ‘the more photos the better!’.

Spread the word, tell all your friends!!

Click this button for the event to be added to your google calendar.

The deadline is September 2, 2006 and Maki is even providing a prize for this round.
