Spaghetti Bolognaise

This Nigel Slater recipe came from his show called a Taste of My Life.

I’ve been looking for a more authentic recipe to try and since my son adores pasta I thought this would be ideal for a nice relaxing family meal.

I was right, clean plates all round!  It was delicious, rich and filling, perfect!

Karen’s Speedy Courgette & Bacon Risotto

This recipe comes from the New Covent Garden Soup Company’s  – Soup & Beyond book.  I can really recommend the Covent Garden cookbooks as I have a couple and so far all the recipes I’ve tried have always been delicious.  They saved my bacon on Christmas Day when I had a soup disaster and found I had all the ingredients for the Lentil and Bacon soup in the cupboard!!

Anyway, back to the risotto.  We were shopping at a local farm last weekend, at this time of year the local produce is amazing and they had some really great looking green and yellow courgettes so we bought a load and then weren’t sure what to make with them.  Mid week Stewart was looking through the cookbooks trying to find inspiration and the Covent Garden book fell open at this page and he decided to test it out. It was simply divine!  Really tasty!  Matthew loved it too as he had a little bit for lunch the next day!

No Bake Cheesecake

On Saturday our son’s nursery had an open day and they asked if the parent’s wouldn’t mind bringing something along to be sold.  I volunteered to bring a cheesecake since I’m not the greatest baker in the world and this has got to be my favourite dessert and also one of the easiest!  See what you think.

This recipe is a combination of a Nigel Slater recipe and my friend Sue’s recipe.  It’s deliciously naughty!

This version I flavoured with orange and lemon but you can omit the orange juice and rind and top with freshly chopped strawberries for a really delicious alternative.

Back in Business

After quite a break, some technical issues, a new host and going back to work full time, I’m finally back in business!!!

I’ve got a couple of recipes to share and will post them soon!

Update : New Home, New Kanton!!

Things have been on the quiet side here again for a while with very good reason, we’ve been moving house. After our new arrival last year we decided that it was time we considered moving out of the city and into the countryside and so we began searching for a new home. We found our new place at the end of last year but had to give our notice to our last place so I feel as if this has all been a long time coming.

The move went pretty smoothly and now we’ve been in 3 weeks and I just LOVE our new place!! I’ve never lived in the countryside so for me this is all brand new! We have a farm at the end of the road and the forest on our doorstep.

I’m really looking forward to the summer and making the most of our new surroundings and getting back into growing some veg and herbs in our garden.

I was a little worried about changing Kanton and all of the administrative complications that entailed but so far everything has been pretty straight forward.
Our little boy is not so little and is 9 1/2 months old already! Soon the summer will be here and he’ll be walking (and chasing our cats!)

The house is almost organized so I’m hoping to try out some new recipes on my new cooker over the coming weeks.

Tschüss for now
